Objectives

At Shasya Shyamala Trust, we understand the vital role of indigenous plants in supporting native faunal diversity. Without plant diversity there can be no butterflies, bees, bats, birds, or mammals.

Plants have long been at the receiving end of biodiversity destruction in India. Even here in Karnataka, though the state boasts of having over 4800 species of native plants, several are under threat or even endangered as there is no transparent monitoring of protected areas and biodiversity hotspots. Towards this end, one of our goals is to maintain as many local native plant species at our field station as possible for posterity.

Through our education modules, we hope to bring an awareness in children about the importance of native plants in the long-term sustainability of the natural sub-continent

Nursery & Natives

Ancient beings that were here in this landscape millions of years before we humans arrived, Native Plants and Trees are superbly adapted to their ecosystem. They require almost no maintenance, and as primary producers, they play a vital role in supporting a myriad range of life forms from fungii to insects to birds and large mammals.
